Solar System Projects For Kids

Vera Said:

Is my analogy correct for Newton's Gravitational Law?

We Answered:

How about using the ISS or space shuttle as an example? Always falling to earth, but never reaching it due to it's speed, but not flying off into space due to earths pull? Just like us not falling into the sun because of earths velocity in the direction perpendicular to the force of the sun's pull. But of course we don't experience micro gravity because of earths mass.

Is my analogy correct for Newtons gravitational law?

We Answered:

Yes, this is exactly it.
You can push it a little further. Imagine the speed of the younger child increases. Then the force by which they pull on the rope increases as well. This shows that if the central star becomes larger, its bigger gravitational pull has to be compensated for by a larger speed.

Ruben Said:

Do you have an idea?Planets...Planets...?

We Answered:

Name them after characters in a favorite cartoon (Simpsons, monsters, pokemon,...), movie or TV show. Favorite music stars or songs? Friends and family? Pets. Places in a favorite story? Streets near your house? Disney dwarves? Open a dictionary to a random page and pick the first word you poke with your finger?

How about the screen names of the people who answer your question?

Or if all else fails, catalog them the scientific way and just give them roman numerals after the name of the star (so Earth would be "Sol III" )

The B-52s had a song about Planet Claire. I vote for planet Lem
