Solar System Models

Ralph Said:

There are two different models of the solar system. The old one and the new one. What are the differences?

We Answered:

Geocentric:
The Earth is the center of the universe and other objects go around it. Strange "epicycles" were used to explain the non-circular motion of the planets around the Earth.

Heliocentric:
The theory that the Sun is at the center of the Universe, with the Earth and all other heavenly bodies revolving around it. The theory has been refined with the sun at the center of our solar system, not the universe.

Hector Said:

why are modern solar system models better than the older ones?

We Answered:

If by better u mean that we can calculate more precisely the orbits and locations of planets and moons, then it because of general relativity theory. Earlier, using newtonian physics, we got good answers, but not always. For eg. precession of mercury, etc. Now, using general relativity, u can make precise calculations of objects in space. It is essential because even a slight miscalculation can have impacts for space crafts and space probes.

What is the proper name for models of the solar system and gyroscope objects?

Vernon Said:

Whats the difference between historical solar system and current models solar system model?

We Answered:

If your asking about really old solar systems, the difference is that back then they thought the world was like a table and the planet was the center of the universe. It was sunny when the Sun was above the table. It was dark when the sun was below the table.

Dianne Said:

Why do we believe that the Sun is the center of the Solar System when Geocentric Models were so accurate?

We Answered:

I do not know, the consensus said the geocentric models were accurate so they should have done no farther testing because a consensus is good enough according to the AGW alarmist.
