Solar System Inverters

Christian Said:

I am hooking up an inverter to a solar system for my barn. Grounding?

We Answered:

The gauge of wire will depend on the current it may have to conduct (Amperage). See http://www.cerrowire.com/default.aspx?id… for different wire types, both in copper and aluminum. Keep in mind that any connectors you use have to be rated for that material, so if you use aluminum wire you'll need to use connectors rated for aluminum wire. Use a slide hammer (commonly used for steel fence post installation) to drive an 8 foot ground rod in near the inverter, and connect the two. Verify the ground works before you energize the system. Good luck with going green!
