Question about grid infeed solar system?

We Answered:

Absolutely, that is the most popular way to do it. You would need a grid-tied inverter that converts the DC power from the solar panels into AC and connects to the grid. The electric company acts as your battery, any extra power you make is sold to them, and when you need more than you make, or at night and cloudy days, you buy what you need from them. You can see some examples of small grid-tied PV systems at http://www.altestore.com/store/Kits-and-…

Southwest Wind Power makes a grid-tied wind turbine that has the inverter built in, so it can be connected to the grid without batteries. You can see details at http://www.altestore.com/store/Wind-Turb…

can a 8400 watt solar power system have only a 3800 watt inverter?

We Answered:

If the charging system monitors the level of charge and shuts off when not needed, then it should not be a problem. But since it is electrical and potentially explosive, you need to contact a qualified solar contractor.

where can i purchase a solar power system for my farm?

We Answered:

There is a magazine, that deals with solar power systems. They would have adds from reputable companies and could give you references to check, which would be a good idea, because a systems can run 10K or more for a full house set up.

Billy Said:

Is Solar Power System worth buying ?

We Answered:

I say yes. My system cost $26K, I got a $10K rebate so my out of pocket expense was $16K and I will get a $2 fed tax credit. The fed tax credit will increase next year to 30% of the total cost before rebates. I have a utility which allows my meter to run backwards, so for most of the year my bill will be almost zero. I estimate I will save $2K per year, when you consider that electricity rates increase an average of 5% each year I estimate my system will pay for itself in about 6-7 years. My system is guaranteed for 25 years, so I will be getting free electricity for at least 18 years while my neighbors are paying higher rates each year.
