Tracy Said:

Is there such a product available as Battery or Solar Powered Pet Fountains?

We Answered:

I can't come up with any product except this conversion gizmo that you'd have to import from England!

I strongly suspect that you could make something on your own, I mean for converting the existing fountain to solar. In fact, I know it can be done. Do I know how? No.

I suggest you re-post this question in the green living section and others like the geeky ones. Include info like how many watts the fountain uses.

Help in answering these questions on Solar Power?

We Answered:

The only problem with solar produced energy is that the energy must either be used as it is made or it must be stored in battery banks. Solar energy is clean and renewable and significantly cheaper to produce. Most of the electricity produced in the USA is done by the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas. The Pacific Northwest also uses some hydro generation but that can not support the nation and threatens many species of animals, birds, and fish with extinction.

On less sunny days, solar energy can be supplemented by wind generation, and the now used grid electricity which is dependent on coal and natural gas.

The only environmental problem would be due to the battery bank replacements. If they are not disposed of in a safe manor, then there is the potential of hazardous materials leaching into the environment, however this is no more a hazard than what we face right now with vehicle batteries, marine batteries, or flashlight batteries.

I would like to recommend that you join a yahoo group called "simplesolarhomesteading." This is a fantastic group of people who are either living their lives completely off grid or people who one day wish to be able to live off grid. Meaning that they will no longer have a power bill, will not be subjected to power blackouts, and they can live self sufficiently anywhere without depending on any utility company.

Is there such a thing as a solar power CD player to put on a grave?

We Answered:

Sorry for your loss.

If the grave is far away, it might be best to just gather there with friends, and share memories, maybe at a local restaurant after visiting the actual site.

What you could do is make up a web memorial. That way, people can see it any time, without visiting the actual grave. There are tons of sites that specialize in these memorials. You send them pictures, sound bites, music, video, whatever, and they put it up as a memorial. An example is below, my father-in-law. Click on "Movie" to watch the slide show.

Has any one tried the product on TV that uses solar power to cool your car?

We Answered:

I remember seeing those advertised. You mount a small fan in the cracked (as in slightly open) window, powered by solar.

I really don't think it would make much difference in the temp inside the car in your hotter areas, like Vegas, Arizona, Ca. etc.

But I COULD be wrong. I was wrong once......back in 1964.
