When you shine your car headlights on a clear weather at night, you may see the beam of light shinning forward.

Now, if you do the same in a fog, the beam of light will become even more evident. This is because, there are a lot more particles (water vapor or dust) in the atmosphere.

In the Vacuum space between the planets and the Sun, there is much less matter to reflect or disperse the Sun light. If there were no reflection, you will not be able to "see" the light traveling through it.

In a sense, this is a good thing. The less dispersion, the greater the transmission of the energy of light. The light energy is transmitted until it strikes an object such as a planet, a moon, etc.
