Origin Of The Solar System

compare and contrast the two theories on the origin of the solar system?

We Answered:

ahhh good old cosmology.are you using the term inflationary for the big bang theory.the universe is definitely expanding as this was proven by Edwin Hubble in 1929.i believe he used the Doppler effect and the red shift which proved that the universe was growing.this disproved newton's absolute time and space and Einstein's cosmological constant which was meant for a stationary universe that was not expanding.Einstein latter regretted the cosmological constant and wished he had never entertained the idea.also in the 1960's two scientists at bell laboratories heard cosmic backround noise from every direction they didn't know what they had stumbled across but it was the radiation left over from the big bang.in the beginning our universe had a high amount order, less entropy.people who believe in god try to use what i believe is the second law of thermodynamics to disprove these theories as how could the earth be formed with such entropy but that only applies to closed systems.so far from my reading the red shift hasn't stopped so therefore the universe must still be expanding.there was a theory also called the big crunch where the universe after expanding would then start closing in on itself.the steady state theory from what little i read has many of the features of the big bang.as far as i know red shift is still occuring and the universe still expanding so i'll go with the iflationary model.when you bring cosmology up you inevitably bring up god.newton believed in what einstein called a "personal god".einstein did not.people always ask where did the material for the big bang come from and there is a easy answer it was always there.this is no different then saying god was,is always there and is omnipresent.i can not refute god since i cannot prove his demise or non exsistence.but why should i have to prove his exsistence as there was never really a scientific basis for him.i like to qoute karl marx on this i'll paraphrase.god is a creation of man's mind until which he has become a slave.this sums up my opinion.

Judith Said:

What knowledge do comets and asteroids provide to studies of the origin of the solar system?

We Answered:

Both provide materials which presumably are little changed from the formation of the Solar System, unlike materials on planets which will have been modified by tectonic and atmospheric effects. In fact, comets are modified by solar heating if they get much inside Earth's orbital distance, and it has been found that at least some asteroids have had some sort of interior heating. Still, both are probably somewhat representative of the materials which combined to form the planets.
