Jennie Said:

How many moons in the solar system rotate and which ones? Why doesn't our moon rotate?

We Answered:

All the Moons in the solar system rotate, including ours. Our Moon rotates once a month. If you set yourself up a simple model of the Earth, Sun, Moon system, you'll see the Moon has to rotate in order for the same side to always face the Earth. It's becoming tidally locked with the Earth, so that's why we only see one side, but it does rotate relative to the Sun.

Nancy Said:

How were moons in the solar system thought to be created?

We Answered:

Probably the same way planets form. An unbalance of symmetry resulting in gravity producing a sphere. Also Asteroid could hit a planet blowing a chunk off. That could be a result of a moon.

Milton Said:

Why are the planets and moons in solar system made of different materials?

We Answered:

The further away from the Sun you get, the colder it gets and hence the composition of the air and atmosphere changes, which in turns changes the terrain over time

E.g. Pluto is frozen over because it receives no UV Rays whereas Venus is incredibly hot because Solar radiation is trapped by it's gaseous atmosphere

Megan Said:

According to our basic scenario of solar system formation, why do the jovian planets have numerous large moons?

We Answered:

Only a very small percentage of Jovian moons formed from the material around the planets themselves. The great majority were captured as the planets orbited around the Sun.
