Make Solar System

Mike Said:

How do you make a solar system project with 3-D items?

We Answered:

Use little rocks for the asteroids. Use bigger, rounder rocks for the inner planets. Use something round but soft for the outer planets. Don't try to get it exactly do scale (size or distance) because it would be mostly empty space. The sun would be like the outer planets but bigger and white or yellow.

this site has a calculator depending on the size of the balls you bought. It will tell you how far apart they should be placed as well.

How do I make a solar system?

We Answered:

Hello!
I found two sites with instructions that you might want to see. Here are some steps to make a solar system (this is not scale or proportion):

1 -

Paint the Styrofoam according to the relative shape and size of the planets and the sun. It is best to paint them on a skewer to keep from making a mess.
The colors and sizes are as follows:
Sun - 6" - Yellow ,
Mercury - 1" - Orange ,
Venus - 1 1/2" - Deep Danube ,
Earth - 1 1/2" – Blue and Green ,
Mars - 1 1/4" - Red ,
Jupiter - 4" - Orange ,
Saturn - 3" – Green and Coral ,
Saturn's Ring - Coral ,
Uranus - 2 1/2" - Terra Cotta/Seminole Green ,
Neptune - 2" - Seminole Green/Terra Cotta ,
( Pluto - 1 1/4" - Purple).
This can be done with craft paint, acrylic airbrushing or spray paint.

2 -

Cut the dowel or wire to the correct lengths to space out the planets. The lengths are as follows:
Mercury - 2 1/2" ,
Venus - 4" ,
Earth - 5" ,
Mars - 6" ,
Jupiter - 7" ,
Saturn - 8" ,
Saturn's Ring - ,
Uranus - 10" ,
Neptune - 11 1/2" ,
(Pluto - 14").
Once all the dowel is cut, paint it black.

3 - Assemble Saturn, by gluing the ring around the ball.

4 - Place a rubber band or a string around the center of the sun ball. Carefully push the dowels into the sun ball. They must be evenly spaced around the sun. Once they are all attached, press the rest of the planets onto the other ends of the dowels. Be careful not to press them in too far.

5 - Once it is all assembled, you can embellish the sun with red pipe cleaners.

I hope this helps!
See you around!

Does this statement about the solar system make sense?

We Answered:

It's worded terribly, and it may or may not be factual. But nothing in the statement can be proven false.

It suggests that planets formed earlier than meteorites that originated from the same place.
