Formation Of The Solar System

Margie Said:

Which new idea has been added into our theory of solar system formation as a result of the discoveries?

We Answered:

A)

The new planetary systems discovered have basically thrown out the rule books of the old astronomers.
Of the hundreds of planetary systems discovered so far, none resemble our solar system, and if any rules exist at all they appear to be mainly honoured in the breach.

Cheers!

Pedro Said:

According to our theory of solar system formation, what is Pluto?

We Answered:

d.) Pluto is a large Kuiper-belt comet, it used to be considered a planet but has been deemed too small to be considered one, after it was decided that it wasnt a planet it was called a dwarf planet for a while, but now it is just considered an ecesivly large comet.

Josephine Said:

How does the evidence of the Heavy Bombardment support notion of an accretion phase of solar system formation?

We Answered:

Without the physics of accretion, the objects of the Late Heavy Bombardment would not have been absorbed by the planets and moons they hit. The objects would still be flying around the Solar System colliding into orbs (which they are not).

Scott Said:

Dust is an important part of the nebular theory of solar system formation because dust is needed to explain?

We Answered:

An advanced theory, called the condensation theory, includes the nebular theory but also incorporates interstellar dust as an essential ingredient in the formation of the planets. This theory claims that the dust grains of the interstellar medium helped cool the nebular cloud by radiating heat away, and also acted as a foundation upon which atoms could attach. These properties of the interstellar dust grains aided in the collapse of the nebula and in the formation of planets.

Veronica Said:

According to our theory of solar system formation, why does the Sun rotate slowly today?

We Answered:

E) The Sun once rotated much faster, but it transferred angular momentum to charged particles caught in its magnetic field and then blew the particles away with its strong solar wind.
