Uk Solar Power

Elmer Said:

Should the UK build more Nuclear Power Stations?

We Answered:

Yes, And america needs more too..

I would LOVE to supply all energy from solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro power.. But the reality is... Nuclear power is a very good aternative, at a significant cost savings, which works anywhere, with NO greenhouse gas emmissions..

Why we dont use it more already confuses me..

Yeah so it produces nuclear waste...

So does our city hospital... No one protests that...

So does a smoke detector factory... No one protests that either..

So does the earth *in the form of radon* which actually is the second leading cause of lung cancer.... And yet people dont buy the 20 dollar test kit to make sure their home isnt one of them harboring this natural nuclear waste. *its uranium in the soil breaking down naturaly

Go flippin figure...

Gotta love eco-nuts

Brandy Said:

When sceptics say total solar power output is down 10-30%, what are they talking about?

We Answered:

You're correct. Depending on what you compare it to (previous minima, maxima, the average, etc.) solar irradiance is down on the order of a tenth of a percent or less. I haven't a clue where they're getting the 10+% figures from, but guys like James and Richie are known for the fact that every single statement they make is completely wrong. James for example thinks CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas.

The funniest thing is that this argument is counter-productive for deniers. Yes we're in an extended solar minimum, yet 2009 is going to be the second-hottest year on record. If I were a denier trying to argue that the Sun is having a larger effect on global temperatures than CO2, I would shut up about the solar minimum. I certainly wouldn't exaggerate it by a factor of 100.
