Solar Powered Yard Lights

Dwight Said:

Have you made your own yard lighting?

We Answered:

i have been toying with this idea as well.

Right now, I am thinking about going with 10v or 12v conventional wedge lights, with higher wattage bulbs, and putting together a solar panel and car battery type det up to power them.

If I don't do that, i was also thinking LED and have been looking at a websight that is more inspirational than instructional, but well worth looking at. Lay an eyeball on what this guy has done to his place

Using Solar Yard Lights to Charge Electronics?

We Answered:

Those small solar cells just put out a few milliamps of current. Laptops and inverters take a lot of power. You could theoretically charge your laptop battery, but it would take days (if not weeks). Your best bet would be to charge a cell phone, MP3 player, or a flashlight.

Why Haven't My Solar Powered Yard Lights Turned On?

We Answered:

Hi!
I got my daughter a set for Xmas, and we had the same mystery:) Take the top part off of the light, and there is a little bitty off/on switch in there. That should do it, you just have to look closely for it. I assume they send them all in the "OFF" position to save battery power...and since NONE of them are working, I bet that's the problem since you said you get a lot of sunshine. Take a good look, and you'll have lights tonight~
Best Of Luck!!
