Whatever pump you use you will have to plant the ponds with oxygenators. the plants absorb mineral salts and carbon dioxide from the water and, in the presence of sunlight, create food materials. the fish absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide through their gills; apart from their aesthetic attraction they feed on such pests as water lily beetles, mosquito larvae, aphids and caddis flies. They also feed the plants with their excreta, thus also stops green algae and murky water from thriving.
