Your longitude is 33deg 45' and unless you're gardening at sea, latitude doesn't really matter. Is it attached to your home or free standing? Is it for year round use or just spring? Are you using low iron or coated glass? If so, you need to keep the inside of your glass pointing the right way. Does it face true south? What type of floor, dirt or concrete? Will you be using heat sinks? How large is it? You will need a ventilation system tied to a T-stat. to prevent the souffle syndrome. You can also use it as a "trom wall" to heat your house. If you can give me more info I can get you as close to a solution as any formula, I used to do this for a living. Pictures and sketches welcomed. RScott

For sure you can find greenhouses (kits for the most part - that you assemble yourself). If you do a search on google.ca 'Greenhouse, canada' you should come up with some companies that sell them. The only thing is that you would absolutely need heating in the winter. Having worked at Ag Canada for a couple years, I know it takes a lot of energy to heat them since glass is not the most insulating material. I don't know if solar powered heating would cut it, BUT you could ask. I think your best bet would be to talk to a company that specializes in solar panels. I am sure they could tell you the requirements and set it up for you. Sorry I can't be of more help! What a great idea though! I have been dreaming of the same thing.. one day!

One thing.. I just found a paper that looked a greenhouses in Manitoba. Apparently temperatures can generally remain above 0'C during the coldest days of the winter. You don't have to read all the statistics and equations. If you read the introduction, results and discussion, you should get an idea of what you have to do. Also look at the methods - they describe how to build the greenhouse! IT seems that buliding a solid wall on the north side of the greenhouse stores heat during the day and returns it to the GH during the night. There is some requirement to heat the building somewhat - but if this design reduces the heating requirements (and thus the amount you spend on solar panels) it is probably worth it!
