Solar Powered Battery Charger

solar powered battery charger ?

We Answered:

Mine works fine - however you MUST have the key in the ignition before you start charging - it will keep charging after the key is removed.

It will not work however if you take the key out and then try it. You dont mention what charger you have, but mine also has an LED that indicated when its charging and when its not. I got mine from here:

You could try contacting the manufacturer or checking the manual; mine clearly states it does charge when used as i described above.

im making a solar powered battery charger?

We Answered:

you still have the diode or the battery backwards.

The + of the solar panel should be connected to the anode of the diode, and the cathode (+) should be connected to the + of the battery.

In other words, the arrow of the diode should point from the + of the solar array to the + of the battery.

the negative of the panel is connected to the negative of the battery.

put the + and – symbols on the battery and on the panel, it will help.

edit: I get the cathode and anode reversed, sorry. I just look at the arrow, it should point in the direction of conventional current.

edit2: re latest sketch, you have the battery reversed, with – terminal connected to the diode, should be the + terminal. Put the "+" and "–" symbols on the battery, it will help. battery – should be connected to array –
