Solar Power Schools

Claude Said:

I want too go to Afghanistan and set up solar power for hospitals and schools. How can I do this?

We Answered:

There are loads of organistations that would love someone to go out and help there, but be aware that you are going to be a target for terrorists if you do there.

Loretta Said:

schools for solar power?

We Answered:

Here's a great article on going to school for a "green career", http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/…

IREC is the organization that certifies schools to teach solar installation. You can check out a list of IREC certified schools at http://irecusa.org/irec-programs/ispq-tr…

Daisy Said:

solar power...how to get in field..any schools specifically for solar?

We Answered:

solar power is an application, not a field of study.
if you were considering windmills, then you need fan design and mechanical engineering.
if you want solar panels, you need materials.
if you want a hydro-electric dam, then that's completely different.

so, one would hope that:
-- there is not a school, and
-- that you would not limit yourself to only that.

Leona Said:

Why don't more schools use solar power as a source of electricity for there schools?

We Answered:

Too expensive, today. But, that is soon changing. Recent advances in solar energy production will make it much more affordable very soon. As to cost, activism goes a long way. If you want renewable energy, recycling, etc. in your school, you can make it happen! A local college where I live recently approved a green energy fund to be added to tuition cost at the request of students. It is only $5 per semester, but will add up and help raise awareness, even if it is just a panel here and there. We create our own futures.
