Solar Power How It Works

Gina Said:

Do I have to change batteries in solar power lights often?

We Answered:

My solar power lights take rechargeable batteries. It's hard to say how often you'll have to replace them. I replace mine, once a year. The solar power (sun) keeps the batteries charged so you'll have light at night in your garden. When a lamp no longer works, it's time to replace the light bulb. I have to change my light bulbs more often than the batteries. (all lamps are different) If it still doesn't work, replace the battery. The sun is what keeps the battery recharged until the battery can no longer hold it. Copy down the number of the light bulb, so when you need to buy more, you'll have the right ones. That number should be on the box the lamps came in. Save the package the bulbs come in, & take it with you when you buy more in the future. By now, the lamps are in the garden & you're not still testing them inside the house because you're using battery power.

How often do I have to change batteries in solar power lights?

We Answered:

Depends on how well they are designed. The batteries should last a few years.

How did you think the lights could go on at night when there is no sun?

Charging and discharging frequently is never good for a battery, but these should be designed to go through that cycle daily, as the sun does go down daily.

Solar power, how to work out whether it is worth it - read on..?

We Answered:

Often the best way is to do a little research, find out about solar power or related renewable energy solutions. There is alot of information and websites out there about solar power in general or specific technology/systems you can have fitted in your home or others you can construct yourself. Below in the resource box is a link to a website covering the basics of renewable energy and also lists some other resources to help you look up the info you need.
