It sounds like a unique and novel idea...but may I ask if it would not just be more simple to make the outdoor cat into an indoor cat and keep him safe and warm in your home?

Did you know that, in addition to the cold, your outdoor cat faces many hazards? It can get hit by a car, attacked by other cats, dogs or wild animals, be poisoned, fall victim to cruel humans who torture helpless animals, get lost, contract diseases (that it brings home to you), become infested with parasites (which it can also bring home to you), it can caught in traps set for other animals and may become injured or suffer before being released, and - if not spayed or neutered - can contribute to the overpopulation of feral/homeless cats.

Why not enjoy the experience of camping in the deep woods without all the electrical gadgetry? If you plan on using traditional lights you are going to need a 12v car battery plus the inverter. The car battery might be a little heavy in the back pack but if you're a big guy, no problem. Even with a solar panel you still need the battery for storage. (actually you could probably get by with a motorcycle battery). Depending on the part of the country you live, there are probably fairly remote places where you can drive in and have your car near by for a source of power for your gizmos.

As long as you don't connect the output of your solar system to the grid power feeding your home, you'll be okay. Instead of using car batteries, you should be using deep cycle batteries. Car batteries are designed for short duration high current applications (like starting your car). Deep cycle batteries are designed for low current long duration applications (like running a golf cart or powering an inverter).

Giving it some hose guides to rest up against is a great help in avoiding wiping out your plants and you have a little more freedom to not always be wondering if your hose is damaging stuff. Solar light sounds like it should work nicely as long as the hose doesn't up-root the solar light while you are yanking on the hose just make sure to anchor it deep enough and that it post is strong enough not to break from the added stress of the hose

I don't know much about how it works but just bought a 'how to guide' on building solar power panels and energy saving tools. Did you build this yourself? if you bought it from a shop, maybe go back and ask for better instructions or contact the manufacturer.
