If you have access to grid power occasionally or even a car cigarette lighter outlet, your most economical solution if you value reasonably good quality sound would be to invest in several extra sets of NiMH rechargable batteries. Solar panels have extremely long payback periods if you aren't maximizing their use. A personal MP3 player will use far less power than a neighborhood sized boom box so you'll want to make that part of your plan. A few of my many NiMH chargers (Duracell) allow me to leave the batteries in when they're done charging and output their power through a USB port. The batteries themselves are the "precharged" or "low self discharge type".

You can use a semi portable solar panel to run a larger radio relatively easily (other than the pain to the wallet) if it runs on batteries. You'll want to have a charge controller or better yet a high efficiency DC-DC converter to match the varying output of the panel to the voltage requirements of the radio.

Personally, I wouldn't pay a premium price for a mediocre radio with a smallish solar panel attached.

I'll reserve judgement about the D.I.Y. Instructables project.

but apparently they will fly, and they are not solar... i think making the lifter its quite a challenge by itself, now solar... good luck.

You are going to need some GLASS that will let the sun in and TRAP the heat. Plastic or Plexiglas is no good. You are also going to have to find a way to keep the glass side pointed toward the sun. Insulation is also advised.
Even then its going to be a SLOW cooker. No pizzas or turkey dinners in this one.

Aluminum foil and a clear plastic bowl. Dig a shallow, curved, round hole slightly less in diameter that the bowl. Line the hole smoothly with the foil put the dog a skewer and place it , bridging the hole. Cover the entire thing with the plastic bowl. It sometimes helps to put a small amount of water on the foil at the bottom of the hole. Just enough to form a small pool. It acts like a magnifying glass.
