We do have monorails but only where they have been added to a new area. It is cheaper to keep using the infrastructure we already have. Electric cars are just getting started (Chevy Volt). They are of limited utility for long hauls, though [and those long extension cords are a pain ;-)]. Wind and solar are being used but they are limited to certain areas of the world. You wouldn't put a solar plant in Alaska or a wind turbine in the middle of a rain forest, would you? Festina lente. [Ask an Italian friend.]
