What are the social, economical, environmental and political advantages and disadvantages of wind and solar?

We Answered:

i've answered for both solar and wind together in each Q, because they're both basically the same thing. two different ways to harness more natural energy sources.

advantages-
social: this is probably the hardest question, and i'm not quite sure how to answer it. maybe you could say that more people are turning to renewable energy sources, and it'll become s fashionable as coal burning once was.

economical: since your next question is enviro, i'll only talk about the money side of the economical advantages. while i imagine building the structures to harness the natural power will be expensive, given it's new tech, and there will probably be issues about where to build etc but in the long run, companies building these stations will make more money than they are now. it's alot more expensive to burn coal over a long time. everyday people will benefit too, from a cheaper bill every month.

environmental: environmentally, using wind and solar power will be heaps better than the current methods. we will be harnessing natural power sources that have been present on earth since it evolved form the big bang without interfering with it's natural course. no need to turn the earth's crust into swiss cheese anymore. and there won't be a need to burn the sources to create energy, sending tonnes of fumes and gases into the atmosphere, creating global warming etc.

political: by using wind and solar power to gather energy instead of burning non-renewable sources eg; coal, an advantage politically is less political wars over what section of the land belongs to which nation. there have been plenty of wars between nations, fighting over who deserves control over coal and oil sources. eg: australia and east Timor (i think). particularly if the source is in the ocean, it is hard to decide on who's side the source is on. solar and wind power station will have to be on land to work, so there shouldn't be so much confusion over who owns what.

disadvantages: i don't think there are many disadvantages to renewable resources. it'll be hard to get everyone to eventually turn to natural energy, especially for those with financial probs, and the government might have some probs figuring out where to build the stations, and the energy might not be as consistently ready for use becase it relies on weather patterns, but all in all, not that many disadvantages to either tech. hope all that helps!:)
