Thin Solar Panels

Marion Said:

can stationary paper thin panels, near each other, that replicate the armature of a generator make electricity?

We Answered:

The magnetic field must be moving with respect to the generator coil. A simple check with a compass will show that the field is not moving, so the coil must be moving. This requires energy which must be supplied from somewhere. Also, the field is very weak so only a miniscule output will be produced, far less than the energy supplied to move the coil..

Colleen Said:

Can anyone give me some advice on how to solder thin-fragile solar cells?

We Answered:

Dont.

Use electricaly conductive glue and save yourself the hassle. The glue has low resistance and if you make it thin it will be just as good as solder.

Patsy Said:

How much copper, indium, gallium and diselenide is used in making thin solar panels?

We Answered:

No. we are not likely to run out of them especially for those purposes. In making semiconductors like solar cells, only tiny tiny amounts of the dopants are used.-- on the order of a couple grams for every kilogram of silicon that is used. Looking at it another way, only one dopant atom is present to every ten thousand or so silicon atoms in the crystal structure.
