Sergio Said:

How expensive is it to put up effective solar panels on a roof?

We Answered:

you can put about 2,000 watts up for around $10,000 if you do a lot of it yourself. Otherwise it costs about $7/watt for equipment and installation. Do this evaluation and they can tell you what a system will cost and produce:

Danielle Said:

Would it be possible to use solar panels on the roof of a large 5 story building that houses a non-profit?

We Answered:

I do not recommend the use of solar photovoltaics for the purpose of making money.

Solar photovoltaics are a very expensive way to generate electricity. You cannot sell the electricity for anywhere as much money as it cost to make it.

Star Solar has just come out with a photonic crystal that can increase the efficiency of solar cells by up to 37 percent, Solar energy is rapidly becoming a very attractive alternative to other ways of power production.

Mabel Said:

How many solar panels can fit onto a 40000 square foot roof if the panels are 1.6 meter squared each?

We Answered:

If the panels are each 1.6 square meters:
Each square meter is about 10.763 911 square feet, so 1.6 square meters is about 17.2222576 square feet.
So take 40,000 square feet and divide by 17.2222576 square feet, and you get (rounding DOWN to nearest integer) 2,322 panels.

Or did you mean each panel is 1.6 meters by 1.6 meters? In that case, each panel is 2.56 square meters, which is about 27.55561216 square feet. Divide 40,000 by 27.55561216 and you get (rounding DOWN to nearest integer) 1,451 panels.
