Generally, that particular panel that is hit becomes no good. However, if the whole system is properly grounded, there's a good chance that the other panels, and even the inverter, will survive.

The National Electrical Code specifies that all frames and metal racks upon which the panels are mounted must be grounded. Also (in the US), one of the power leads from the array must be grounded, also.

find the total wattage of the pumps, and purchase a solarpanel larger than needed. why would you want to run garden lights during the day? to run at night, would require some deep cycle batteries, and a power converter for 12vdc to 120 voltac.
