Basically you want to charge a battery with a solar cell.

You need an inverter DC / AC or try to skip the converter in the UPS and filter it to the battery. The UPS will output AC from the battery so no need for an additional inverter.

Give us more info on your UPS and we can show you how to perform the task. Shouldn't be that complicated but it will be very expensive and once you've charged the UPS battery what are you going to use the solar cell for? Could be much more expensive then just using household electricity to charge the battery and a lot slower.

I'm guessing you won't be near electricity.. give us more details like application and what equipment you have in mind.

at radio shack is where i would go the really small .5 volts are like 1 buck or 2 but you can build your own cheaper that are more effeiient just ask someone at radio shack or google it.
