Caravan Solar Panels

Gina Said:

How much would you pay for a Buccaneer?

We Answered:

I would pay about that much for one.

Todd Said:

Can I live in a caravan for a year and park it anywhere?

We Answered:

There are laws about where you can park caravans. And by the roadside is not a good idea - it would rock every time a car went by for a start. Laybys can have restrictions and may be right next to main roads which isn't good. You'd have to park at a caravan park or site which could become costly. There are some sites which are cheap though, but you won't get electric or anything. You'd have to check otu what's in the area.

You could have any caravan - whatever you like. Doesn't matter. You could also survive without electric. Might not be easy though.

As already suggested, a motorhome or campervan may be better as there is no towing involved. Same applies though - you can't just park anywhere in them either.

What voltage output do I require to power my caravan using a solar panel?

Lance Said:

How do I calculate a solar system for my trailer/caravan ?

We Answered:

Well- it goes something like your volts times your amp draw should equal your watts.

Now as all the panels are rated in watts and all your appliances are rated in amps, you need to convert every thing to the same. Don't matter just the same-- either watts or amps.

Next add up all the appliances- the lights, the controller to the reefer, the control to the hot water. Separate out the stuff that runs all the time. Put in a little buffer for the stuff that runs a little (water pumps/ lights/vent blower)

Get a figure and double it, and your batteries will never go flat. If you come up with about 4 or 5 90 watt panels your getting close.

I supplement with an "AIR-X" wind generator. It's good for about 6 amps of charge, but seems to hold it's own. Sooner or later you will need to charge everything up. Just the law of averages.-"nothing works all the time".
