Car Solar Panels

Tom Said:

how do you attach solar panels to a remote control car?

We Answered:

You would have to attach a very impressive array of panels to power even a small remote control car in the best of conditions.

The best you could hope for a a minute trickle charging of a battery pack in which case you would have to hook enough panels in parallel to get the right voltage and connect it in parallel with the battery, still a fairly large array of panels would be built.

Linda Said:

What are the solar panels of a solar car? What are they used for? What are the main parts of a solar car?

We Answered:

There have been a few truly solar powered cars as university projects. But in general, no car/solar panel combination is efficient enough to run completely solar powered.

Solar panels are currently used to lower the strain of the alternator in recharging the battery, and are used extensively on motor homes and the like. The same process could be applied to a hybrid car, although a solar panel itself is not generally aesthetically appealing (this may change with the advent of flexible solar panels.)

Samuel Said:

Has anyone ever totally covered a car with solar panels?

People have tried!

Charlotte Said:

I am planing to fit solar panels on my car to help charge my car batteries.... suggessions?

We Answered:

Save yourself some work...... the solar panels will help keep the battery charged if the car is stored and not run for extended periods. It won't be taking any strain off the alternator, because the engine has to turn the alternator anyway, and you wouldn't see any mileage increase. The tiny amount of current that the solar panels would provide wouldn't make a noticeable difference. Most alternators put out anywhere from 50-100 amps....... I be surprised if your solar panels managed to produce more than a trickle charger would.... about 1-2 amps.
