Build Your Own Solar Panels

Marshall Said:

Would you recommend to try to build your own solar panel ?

We Answered:

I recommend building your own panel only for the fun of it, not to save money. A homemade panel will cost more per kWh for electricity, because you will not be allowed to connect it to the grid, and therefore must build a standalone system with a battery or batteries.

The best instructions are free. This person provides them http://www.mdpub.com/solar/index.html . Also, see http://www.instructables.com/solar/ for both electric and heating panel projects.

Before spending money on plans from the web, I suggest reading this critique: http://www.nlcpr.com/Deceptions6.php

Which is the best online instruction guide to build your own solar panels?

We Answered:

For me, its the one at greenpowerguides.info . You can not only build solar panels but also wind turbines. Actually, the e-book is easy to understand and you can get started right away. After reading this book, I could create my own solar water heater in less than an hour and it cost me around $20.

How to build your own solar panel?

We Answered:

Yes you can build one yourself mate! The simple kind mind you. I build a really simple panel, which was enough to power up a few household items! Now since you're looking for "detailed step-by-step instructions, then I'd suggest you go get your hands on one of those video DIY guides. Don't go for text instructions because you're a total noob mate. It'd hard for you to understand what's what lol

Good luck!

A good tutorial to build your own solar panels from scratch (to produce electricity)

That makes two of us :)
Here are two sites I'm using right now to build my own solar panels. It's not my first time going solar (built a small panel this weekend), but it's the first time I'm building something large enough to take over part of the electrical needs of my home. Hopefully one day, I'll be 100% off grid!
