Of course, this technology was available quite a long time ago, but it's complety bizarre why the bigwigs never bothered to see a connection between the South African climate and solar power.
It's quite understandable that the government didn't, seeing that their first priority (as always) is to grab kickbacks from monstrous, pre-historic parastatals like Eskom....
And the more things change, the more they stay the same...

Well the first and most essential things would be the solar electric panels themselves. You will also need an inverter which you could get from any auto store, Sam's club or wal-mart. Then you'll need some batteries like car batteries, the more the better. Lastly you'll need sunny days.

Be prepared to buy lots of solar cells and to spend plenty on them.
