I really don't want to hurt your feeling but that was complete crap. try doing an outline of how you want you story to go instead of just writing what comes into your head.

The logistical problems i had with the story. It was not Gothic

You have written the word beach more then once in same paragraph. At the same time you haven't described the beach at all. Cut out everything about finding the perfect beach.

You haven't told any why you are there? To write a book come on, you can think of a better reason. This whole thing sound way to Steven King. It would make more sense if you main character was renting a house for the summer, or staying at the house of someone he knows. the property is private and old.

You want the build up horror. The first day maybe your character hears something while getting in to bed. Or he wakes up in the middle of the night and thinks he see something in the window. He rubs his eyes and looks again but there is nothing. How about he goes to dinner at cheesey restaurant that mock the Ghost that is haunts will haunt him. IT could be a pirate or a woman that went crazy and killed her family, or it could be a person that was murdered there and your writer could some how resemble him.

Then the next day thing escalate. Then finally the next day your character should go mad or something. If you kill him off then who is writing the story.


The whole laptop thing you might want to get rid of it. Have your character use a pen and paper it simple and it works well.

Since you seem to be doing a lot of good things already - here is a less well-known but very green thing to do with any kitchen leftovers and such you may have: produce biogas from it in a so-called digester.

Any kind of "wet" organical waste (such as lettuce or potato leftovers, or meat, or grass, ...) does not fit well on a compost heap - in significant quantities it will cause ANaerobic digestion as opposed to the aerobic process composting is supposed to be, and will produce methane in that process, which is 23 times as bad as CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

In a small-scale digester, you let these type of waste streams digest without oxygen (you could say "let it rot") but capture the methane that is formed and put it to some good use (eg heating).

It was okay...the one thing I'd consider is SHOWING, not telling.
For example, the part where you wrote: "Skeletons of the dead burst from the sand and dragged him down under the sand, in an intensely violent and graphic manner..."
The "intensely violent and graphic manner" seems a little odd to me. It's something about the editing. It sounds almost corny. Try something more active like, "The skeletons snatched Neal in their bony hands and dragged him under the sand while he screamed"...

I don't know. Something more thrilling.
