Solar Lights Outside

Harry Said:

What time should I look outside during the solar tsunami?

We Answered:

You've already been told multiple times about the cause and the correct term, so here are the answers to just your other questions:

Peak auroral viewing time is midnight, although it's often seen a few hours each way. For this storm, the aurora is best visible around 2AM.

The further north you can get, the better. Ohio's lowest (most southern) magnetic latitude is 49. The higher the latitude the better - we're at 51 here and have seen the aurora during peak times, but only in exceptional circumstances. May I ask where you are? :)

It's cloudy here right now and we can't see a thing, which is very annoying. Best viewing comes with a clear sky free of clouds and light pollution.

So:
-you're at at least 49, so you have a slight chance
-you need to travel north
-you need to stay out of the city.

[insert obligatory "it's not a solar tsunami it's a CME" speech]

Hope you see some lights!
