My Solar Garden lights keep getting stolen?

We Answered:

So you've spent how much on these lights so far? Here is what I would do. Buy this light for $29.00 (see link). it's a little motion sensor light. put it on a small post or someplace where if some one who walks up will set it off. It may scare the kids off. I'm not saying it will work but you can try it.

otherwise I've seen a motion sensor lawn sprinkler for gardens. Rabbits, squirrel etc. You'd have to check around on that one.

Sarah Said:

Are there any "solar" garden lights that actually work?

We Answered:

Define "work". All of the solar lights on the market now "work". Yet none of them work well. None of them put out enough light to be useful, none of them will work in times of many cloudy days in a row , and all of them are excessively expensive. Do not waist your money on buying solar lights because the technology is not yet perfected. Spend your money on a good quality low voltage system. They will produce the proper amount of lighting and they are energy efficient and they will last the life time of your house.

Gertrude Said:

how do you prevent or reduce the amount of ice forming on garden solar lights?

We Answered:

Give them a wipe with some surgical spirit. clean and frost free, as well as cost friendly.

I got a set of homemaker solar garden lights but they wont work?

We Answered:

Never heard of a off/on switch on these. If it is new, many times they stick a piece of paper between the battery and the connection so to keep the battery good. Remove paper and check to ensure battery is installed right. Let charge for a good 4-8 hours.
If a older light, the batter is probably old and worn out. I have over 50 of these lights in my yard, I replace the batteries about every 2 years.

Solar garden lights vs normal garden lights?

We Answered:

I have both and for some reason the solar ones just don't last as long. Also, if the "eye" gets dirty (like with soot and ash after the fire) you have to clean them off so the sun gets through and they go on. That being said, the electric ones are annoying to change the little bulbs inside and they keep changing the type of bulbs they take. And, it is annoying to change out the electric fixtures when they don't work because of the way they connect to the wire. Lastly, they light that comes from the solar isn't very bright as compared to the electric ones.
