Rechargeable Batteries Solar Lights

Dale Said:

Still confused, solar lights have what kind of battery then, NiCD or regular rechargeable batteries? Thank you

We Answered:

A solar light uses a rechargeable battery.

A NiCd is a "regular" rechargeable one.
During the hours of daylight a solar panel in the light housing charges the battery.

During the hours of darkness the (hopefully) charged battery powers the light.

Ramona Said:

can i use any brand of aa rechargeable lithium batteries in my solar lights?

We Answered:

yes. there is nothing special about the batteries used in the solar powered landscape lights.

Just do not use a NON-rechargable one, because when light hits the solar charger, it will cause the battery to overheat. Other than that, Lithium Ion, NiMH. NiCd will work fine, just the on time will change. Li Ion has the best output.

Solar rechargeable batteries. I have solar lights.I need to know if regular rechargeable batteries work.?

We Answered:

You would do well to match the chemistry of the original batteries.

If the original batteries are NiCd, that's because of their superior high temperature performance, and ability to trickle charge. If you replace those with NiMH, the most common type you buy in the store, then it won't hurt the batteries, but the lights won't stay on very long at night.

If the original batteries are already NiMH, then you're good to go.
