Leslie Said:

If u were president of the US (or elsewhere), what would u do (or not do) about global warming?

We Answered:

All fairly good ideas. The problem is that you'd also basically be penalizing anyone that couldn't afford to upgrade their homes and/or autos and couldn't afford to make choices on any basis other than what they can afford right now. Investing in lowering the initial cost of the improvements would go much further toward not only improving the implementation of green tech., but also to improve the quality of life for those in lower income brackets. For instance, I wouldn't mind buying a hybrid for my economy car, but I simply can't afford to buy one. So I'm stuck with my '98 Neon for a daily driver (not that it's a polluter, by any means - It gets 30+ in town while running the AC). If you could stabilize the economy and increase wages for the average American, then the tax incentives would be MUCH more fair than just giving the breaks to those who could afford to take advantage of them. How about a massive public works project similar to those implemented after the Great Depression. Projects that focus on building an infrastructure that supports green tech. Training and putting people to work retro-fitting government facilities bringing their energy efficiency up to healthy standards would be a good way, and putting those people to work through LOCAL civilian contractors would keep the right-wing, "commie" shouting, tea-baggers off your back. Well, OK, they'd be on your back anyway because they don't like it when the other side makes sense or when they're wrong.

Are these...astronomical mistakes?

We Answered:

1. It doesn't say anything of planets. It says seven SKIES. Some people have assumed that this refers to the several levels in the atmosphere, but that is clearly false (as obvious in the next verse you quote). I personally think it's about the multiverse consisting of seven different universes; ours being the closest one (to us and from our perspective).

2. "Nearest heaven" ('donia' = lowest/nearest also means this world) and "stars" is also planets. So what the verse says is that the lowest/sky or our known world (which suggests another scientific realm that I am entirely clueless about so will ignore) is adorned with stars or planets. And isn't the sun a star? Regardless there is no contradiction between the sun and moon being in the lowest level and the stars/planets being there, especially in the context of a multiverse.

3. The additions in brackets are not in the Quran. They are added by the translator according to his/her interpretation.

4. I think context is necessary here. It's not astronomical though. The story and context is widely debated, but by "protection" most people agree this refers to physical cover. Meaning they lived outdoors and wore no clothes.

5. Not folded up. I can't think of a suitable English term, but is connotes roundness... rolling? In any case this is in reference to the Day of Judgement, but it doesn't imply flatness more sphericality (that's not a word, but you know what I mean :))

And God knows best. God constantly asks us to look into the universe and study it, the Quran isn't meant to give us scientific answers or to satisfy our lust for knowledge, but to encourage it and to inspire education and research to reach a better understanding of God's creation. We may think we know things, only to realize that we were way off or that there are things that we never imagined possible (new discoveries are being made every day, our perspectives are changing and broadening and science is in a state of flux. Something may be a fact, but it isn't universally and unconditionally unchanging and we learn that about things everyday)...

If my answer is not making sense it's because I haven't studied any science since school and only know basic astronomy, but it seems most of them just need better context. I advise you to use this website because you can add/remove different translations http://quran.com/ :)

Electricity question!!!!!!!!!!?

We Answered:

A Solar torch? A solar torch that uses a 75 watt light bulb?
Solar torches use an LED lamp. This lamp takes a VERY small amount of electricity to work. An LED is a Light Emitting Diode.
Info on LED.

(Anything you see listed in Blue, is a word, or whatever, that when clicked on takes you to more information. It is a link)

4.Solar Torch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_lamp

5.Wind generator: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_Genera…

Your Wind Generators, made from washing machine motors, (Or whatever ), need to put power into a large storage battery, or series of batteries.

(The Positive pole of one battery, connects to the Negative pole of another battery. Two or MORE batteries connected together this way, are connected in a Series Circuit.
6.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_circ…
You have the same amount of Voltage, but more Amperage.

Voltage times Amps = Wattage (Voltage X Amperage equals Wattage
V x A=W )

If you connect two batteries together, Positive pole to Positive pole, and Negative pole to Negative pole, you have a Parallel Circuit. More Amperage, but the same amount of Voltage.

There is a such thing as a Series-Parallel Circuit. Uses both.

A flashlight uses a Series Circuit. Two 1.5 volt batteries. These power a 1.5 volt bulb. The larger Amperage of using two batteries, makes the 1.5 volt light bulb, light longer. There is more storage of power (Electricity) available) Car batteries can be used for this.

If you type what you are looking for, in the ->Search box at the top right, it will give you search hits in Instructables.com

10.http://www.instructables.com/tag/?q=Sola…

I hope this information benefits you in some way. I can only post ten links. I posted links to three different websites. I hope it shows you how to get around in these websites, and also how to use your browser search box.

I wish you the best luck in the world. I feel you are very intelligent, and will find the answers you seek. Perhaps you will become an Electrical Engineer.

Edit: When handling a storage battery, such as a car battery, use safety precautions.
1.The battery contains acid. Sulfuric acid. Getting any of it on your clothes will eat holes through them. Getting it on your hands, or flesh will cause acid burns. Even the powdery residue on the battery terminals will cause harm. Wash your hands, Immediately, after handling a battery. DO NOT touch your eyes with your fingers after handling a battery, or place your fingers in your mouth! Wash your hands real good, first!
Whatever water that you wash with, will have the sulfuric acid residue in it. Get rid of this waste water! FOLLOW these precautions and advice!

2.A storage battery, (Such as a car battery), develops Hydrogen Gas when being used, or when being charged. This is a HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE gas, and a tiny, tiny, spark can ignite it!
The batteries need to be well ventilated. Have a LOT of air flow around them. The Hydrogen Gas is not good for breathing either! DO NOT have the storage battery/batteries, inside your place of residence.
ALWAYS connect the Positive pole first, and the Negative pole LAST! Connecting it the other way around, can cause a spark!
BE SAFE, LIVE A LONG LIFE.
