Garden Lights Led

Carrie Said:

What kind of LED lights should be used outdoors?

We Answered:

First of all I think you are mistaken about LED lights and plants. What you really want is a full spectrum lightbulb, that is timed to go on for 8 hours a day. You can find them at most hardware stores.

Rita Said:

what are the most renowned magazines in LED lighting and gardening in Europe?

We Answered:

At the moment I do not think there are any.

In the US there are some online sites devoted to LED lighting,

http://www.leduniversity.org/index.asp
http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/
http://www.creeledrevolution.com/

If Europe conducts a seminar such as the one here http://www.arrownac.com/offers/cree/cree… it might help spur the development of such a magazine.

However, if you can find enough sponsors, who says that you cannot create that magazine yourself? You have the criteria of what you want to see already. http://www.lrc.rpi.edu/ has probably the single best assortment of useful links for the concept you have in mind. You might also contact the lighting manufacturers themselves, Cree (supplies Philips Osram and others), Vishay, Lite-on, and others. Digikey in the US, sells worldwide and has a fairly complete listing of vendors, and quite a few LED component parts. http://www.digikey.com

Lynn Said:

Which wires go where in connecting garden led lights in series?

model number?

Tyrone Said:

Can you mix LED and ordinary garden lights?

We Answered:

Sort of is the answer.

The basic thing to understand is that LED lights need a constant voltage supply and are prone to fail if the voltage fluctuates much, so they need a specialist LED driver (constant voltage transformer). However, if you connect regular incandescent bulbs to an LED driver you can likewise damage the driver.

Some LEDs are designed to work with normal 12v systems and will be labelled as such, otherwise the way to "mix" the two systems is to install two separate transformers and cables and run each light fitting from the appropriate power supply.
