Solar Energy Systems Designers?

Are there any grants for solar systems or high-energy A/C for people whose bodies have thermoregulation issues?

We Answered:

If you have not yet done so, it will pay to super-insulate your house, including attic, walls, and windows.

If your A/C is whole-house (probably is in a hot area), then maybe you could save by using one of those through-the-wall air conditioners in your son's room only, and turning the thermostat up or even off for the whole house. We manage to survive on fans only in our house, even when it's 100+ outside, but the air is very dry where we live.

How does solar energy affect the systems on the surface of the Earth?

We Answered:

Hi dee,

Most of you have probably heard about residential solar power systems already but are still unaware of the really essential things that surround it.
These systems actually let you generate your own electricity right in your homes. They are designed to be incorporated with the utility service that already exists in your home.

These systems feature power electronics, patented mounting kits, solar modules and plug-and-play wiring.

The light coming from the sun will be converted by the solar cells found in your modules into DC power directly. This DC power will then be converted to AC power by an inverter so that you can already use it for your homes. These systems are actually connected to the utility that you have in your home. At day time, these systems will be supplying your homes with electricity while a portion will then be used to charge those batteries which you can use in case of power shortage.

Systems are usually specifically designed for specific needs such as to provide electricity to run electrical devices, lights and also appliances. There are also those which are designed to turn the sun's light into heat.

Are solar and wind energy systems suitable only when the sun is shining and the wind blowing?

We Answered:

There are some options. For either, you can tie them to the grid, and hopefully one area will have a surplus when another area is in the doldrums. Electricity is already transferred long distances, so this is not new, but load balancing is an issue, and there are problems with new power sources being added to the grid.
For solar, first maximum energy load is during the day, particularly on hot days when the A/C is needed, so solar plants can take the place of natural gas "peaker" plants, used to help with a peak load. Second, if you have solar thermal (as opposed to solar photovoltaic), you can heat up a mass which retains its heat, and then use that heat later. This could work for several days of heavy clouds, but overall power production would eventually be reduced. Photovoltaics work rather well in light overcast situations, it doesn't need a clear blue sky.
