What this actually shows is the difference in the two mens approach to the problem.

Al Gore believes that government programs are the answer and wants the government to use its power to force you and me and everyone else to do what he believes must be done (the fact that he will probably profit from this is also a consideration).

George Bush believes that government programs are not the answer and result in a loss of freedom. He believes that individual free choice with regard to environmental issues will result in the best solution, and the role of government is to provide the widest possible choice (as an example, providing incentives for alternative energy sources).

1 I have no idea, never really heard those terms. Not a good idea either, when dirt is placed in contact with the structure you get termites, rot and deterioration. Now earthen walls are a different story...

Go to your local building zone construction permit office and ask. Im sure though that you will not need a permit to add insulation. And when insulating make sure to add a vapor barrier just behind the drywall or panneling if you put panneling back up. You could also ask a local contractor. My personal preferance would be to use a spray on foam insulation, which unfortunately will have to be applyed by an insulation contractor.

My first interest stemmed from these designs: http://www.macdonaldarchitects.com/design/residential/survival_consultants/ after reading an old article in mother earth news.

I would say there are a lot of different style of homes, just like traditional building methods. If you google, you will find a lot of variety.

Good luck. I would like to see these homes become more popular.
