Charles Said:

Was the war in Iraq worth it?

We Answered:

For the same money, we could have pursued terrorism in an intelligent, focused way. This would have been the preference of all Democrats, even the environmentalists. Remember back when the US first went to war against Bin Laden? The US as a whole was united in that goal!

At the cost of much less money and blood, we could have stayed in Afghanistan and killed Bin Laden. We could have supported the moderate government of Karzai and destroyed the evil Taliban. Guess what? We didn't accomplish anything in Afghanistan. Do you have any idea of what a mess it is? It's almost back to Taliban rule, the major export is raw heroin, high school principles have been kidnapped and beheaded, and girl's schools have had to close or be bombed.

Ground source heat pump - real advice from real people?

We Answered:

What you are building is wonderful. I have a heat pump and it works all right, but still uses more electricity than I had hoped. I've added a hydronic heat system, (radiant floor heat) which I think is much more efficient. Basically it's a hot water system that supplies hot water under the floor of the room you are heating and not to any room you don't want to heat. That way you can control any and all room temperatures individually. Much better than heating a room that you seldom use.

It heats the floor, the walls, the funiture, etc. instead of just the air and just makes everything feel cozy. Since everything you come into contact with is warm, you can turn down the thermostat and still feel comfortable. Also you don't have the air blowing and don't have air filters to change and dust particles blowing around. This system is great for alergies. However, you will have to install separate air conditioning.

Is this a good speech? For Year 9 English.?

Good morning and thank you for inviting me to this youth symposium to talk about one of many sustainable energy practices to replace coal-fired power stations. Coal-fired power plants burns fossil fuels to produce electricity. These power plants provide most of Australia's electricity. When coal is burned, it releases carbon dioxide that threats our atmosphere which hugely contributes to global warming.

Global Warming is the most significant environmental issue we have ever faced. It is our job to stop global warming for the future of our planet not only for us and our children but also for the animals and our various beautiful ecosystems.

A great renewable energy source that should be more relied on then coal is solar energy. Solar energy is clean and natural and does not produce any CO2 compared to coal-fired stations which produce overwhelming amounts of threatening CO2 . Solar Panels should be made easier to install as more would help reduce the effects of global warming. Global warming affects everyone, every animal and the environment.

Examples are:
- Animals can't survive because the overpopulation and depletion in other animals in food chains
- Change in temperature changes the amount of algae in sea. Destroying beautiful and scenic ecosystems as well as putting the animals inhabiting those areas to die from loss of food.
- Water temperatures rising causing more violent and more frequent hurricanes.

The government should make a real contribution to make it easier for home-owners to install solar panels. Solar panels are awfully expensive and most cannot afford to pay the upfront cost.

~~I really don't get this part: (Something is wrong with the sentence structure.)
"The use of solar energy to produce electricity allows the user to become less dependent on the worlds harmful fossil full supplies, if every home-owner in Queensland or EVEN all the home-owners in Australia the use of fossil fuels to produce electricity would be greatly reduced."

~~Continuation:
To make it easier for Queensland home-owners to install a solar energy panel, the government should offer a a rebate of at least 75-80% of the installation upfront cost. Though in these backbreaking economical times with the great global financial crisis and with the cost of living is always increasing many can't afford or can't risk investing in this great unfriendly and economical product. The government should also help by giving the people the opportunity to get a loan for “green” investments, so that more people have an easier opportunity to install solar panels and make a greater impact in saving the future of our planet.

~I suggest you place this part here and fix it. It could be your concluding statement:
"This may even support many other countries to follow in Australia's footstep and reduce their carbon footprint, to help save the future of our great planet."

~~avoid redundancy of words (CO2) / fix the paragraph that I wasn't able to understand (or just cancel it) because if your audience will be just listening, they won't understand it too / If you are to place it on a powerpoint, don't show what you are to say. I suggest that you should only place the parts where you have given examples about the effects of global warming or else they won't listen to you and tend to just look at the power point. But if you still would rather place everything, then better say nothing at all let the audience read themselves. / I also had this Idea that if you could insert pictures of carbon dioxide emissions or just pictures that suit your examples. That would be nice.

Enjoy your speech!

Global warming and use of fossil fuels?

We Answered:

Yes, really agree we should make maximum use of solar panels even if only for heating water in the summer months of the year. This would still save a lot of energy if they were fitted to every house. It may be impractical on some houses due to their limited exposure to the sun but for many houses solar panels would be a good way of heating water. Even during the fall and spring months they are of benefit. Here in the UK the cost is around £3,000 to £5,000 and if combined with an auxilliary wood burning water heating system carbon emissions could be cut dramatically. Unfortunately there is still restriction in planning in some areas and also a lack of experienced installers.

Discuss It!
