I would, say before you spend money on a change in heating appliance or system, to increase the insulation value of your home. Every dollar given out for insulation has a higher return on value than that given out for a new heating system. Better insulation, less heat used ergo lower costs. When you eventually change to a renewable resource for heating, your new appliance will cost less, because it will have need less power now to heat your home.
If you insulate your home to the level of a passive house, you can even get rid of a heating system.
Like I said insulation is the most effective way to save money and save on CO2.
