Using Solar Power

Connie Said:

How does using solar power help with the pollution problem?

We Answered:

Most electricity is generated by coal powered plants. Which do their share of polluting. When you use solar, you lessen the demand for coal powered energy.

June Said:

Has anyone heard of ski hills using solar power for lighting?

We Answered:

Hi Laurie-Ann, unfortunately solar power only works in the daytime,

Yes there are batteries involved regarding storage, but they only used temporarily; holding DC current until its quickly converted to AC power.

Thus solar power is not available in most systems as stored power for nighttime use.

Teresa Said:

Would it be worth while to start using Solar Power?

We Answered:

Yes, it is worth using solar power and some forms are extremal easy and effective.

Heating swimming pool's with solar panels is inexpensive and efficient.

The best part about PV (electric) installations on municipalities and commercial buildings is that you produce power during the dreaded "peak" operating hours.

Long Island has implemented a $4.75 a watt incentive for schools and municipalities that install PV systems. This makes investment in these systems quite reasonable.

The only reason we haven't seen much in renew-ables is because when oil was abundant it was cheap. Now that supply is limited costs are escalating and renew-ables become more cost effective.

Japan and Germany have strong programs and are much more advanced than we are when it comes to solar, simply because their energy costs have been significantly higher than ours for some time now.

Definitely express your thoughts with your elected officials, send them letters and e-mails.

Solar and wind answer many problems and make perfect sense.

Dustin Said:

how to run an air conditioner using solar power?

We Answered:

depends on type of ac unit you are talking about and how many amps it pulls...multiply volts times amps this gives you watts.....so 30 amps times 230 volts would be 6900 watts or 6.9 kilowatts....you would need a power converter to change the voltage from dc to ac to run air conditioner or anything else...
