Way too much.

We have spent billions of dollars on subsidies and research into 'alternative energy' over the past 30 years and are essentially still in the same spot.

The fact of the matter is that unless we raise energy prices to the point where our economy is crippled and people freeze to death in the winter - alternative energy will never be viable.

Well, presently it might be Germany, but it was just a way to create an industry.

Spain is expanding very fast and the province of Andalusia is planning a single plant of 16MW and 60MW total.

The output of German solar cell capacity reaches coming out of factory already exceeds several GW per year (a large nuclear power plant has 2GW but is installed for 40 years).
And it is still strongly growing around Freiberg and Freiburg.

Luxembourg has the highest incentives for solar power per kWh.

Italy has one of the highest electricity prices (almost 20ct per kWh on the market !!!!) but you might encounter other problems there, especially in the south if you know what I mean...

It is like any Government Policy in essence a great Idea but then they pass the buck to someone to fill in the dots and levave them clueless . Car manufactureres had the same problem when they had to make so many Percent recyclable ... the policy maker didn't care how or what they just HAD to ... I figure it is the same for you guys bare in mind the policy maker probably has no idea of your trade he just said great Idea let them sort it out !

What they need to do is ninsist that maunfacturers now build homes with more energy conservation built in whether that is Solar Power of wind or even the Underground water heating thingy ... also the Water pipes on the roof ... one thing prevents it and that is cost same as te car manufacturer ... the Prius is a great Idea but who wants to pay 20k for car that is mearly average just to be green ?
