Is Solar Energy philosophically like being a vegetarian?

We Answered:

Yes, solar energy philosophically, at least, is like being a vegetarian who prefers eating plants over having to hunt and kill animals. The hunters today are the advanced greedy nations that consume a disproportionate share of the earth's resources. Hunters are the obese ones who have their red meat but cannot digest it. I dare say the vegetarians have a powerful advantage being more resilient and able to survive where the hunters perish. Pure stored energy belongs to the rice- eating, basil-consuming vegetarian in my view. How many obese people were saved from the Haitian rubble? Now, in the 21st century we have all evolved to include some of the others' characteristics. There are no more pure hunter warriors with the exception of the over-consuming nations; and there are no pure vegetarian gatherers.

Do you believe soon I will design a new type of computer storage device that not only store data but energy?

We Answered:

I already have 3 of those sitting in my garage, just next to my time machine.

Hehehehe

Maybe you should become a Sci-Fi writer.

About solar power and storage...?

We Answered:

Most people have already mentioned the industrial type batteries. This is about as good as you can get today. As for capacitors think of them as being able to store voltage but not power. It can kick you on your tush but will not run a car. As for the future it is best to get away from batteries. Even the most environmentally friendly batteries are not. But in the future it might be possible to store extra power chemically in another process like a fuel cell where you would use extra electricity during the day to create the fuel that would be used at night. This is basically what a rechargeable battery does. It uses chemicals to store energy. The problems is that most of the current methods like batteries take a huge quantity of batteries to store real power and you have to put more energy into your storage system then you will get out. There will always be losses but maybe in the future the losses will be less. On a side note NASA is currently studying the possibility of using gyros as spinning energy supplies instead of batteries.
