Solar Energy To Electrical Energy Conversion

Samuel Said:

On average, how much energy does one house use during each 24 hour day?

We Answered:

a) 86 MJ

b) 5 % efficiency means that the energy required is 20 x the energy obtained.

Since the energy per square meter is 20, then 20 / 20 = 1 and these two calculations cancel each other out!

Hence, 86 x 250000 = 21500000 Necessary square meters of solar cells.

2589988.11 = conversion factor between mi^2 and m^2.

21500000 / 2589988.11 = 8.301 = 8.3 mi (significant figures).

So your final answer is 8.3 mi

PHYSICS HELP - energy question?

We Answered:

The light energy that falls on a square meter of ground over the course of a typical sunny day is about 20 MJ.= 5.556 Kw-h

The average rate of electric energy consumption in one house is 1.0 kW-h = 3.6 MJ

energy does one house use during each 24 hr day = 3.6*24 = 86.4 MJ................ans
for 250,000 houses electrical energy required = 250000*86.4 = 21600000 MJ
Light energy required = 21600000 / 0.15 = 144000000 MJ
Area in Sq meters required = 144000000 / 5.556 = 25917926.57 m^2
Area in Sq miles = 10.007 mi^2.........................ans

What are some energy conversions you see in everyday life?

We Answered:

every time you look at the mirror you see energy conversion system, your body, it converts energy in your food into motion ,heat, and sound.
Cars, and all transportation transfer energy in fuel to dynamic energy.
Your Radio converts waves to electricity that generates the sound..

Physics Project: Energy Conversion. Help!?

We Answered:

I suggest you visit your local electronics store (or look online if there isn't one near you). You should be able to find a cheap, hobby kit with some simple components which would enable you to build a solar-powered light or something.

Alternatively, you can find anywhere these days things like torches, calculators, and many other things which have a small solar-cell power unit. Get hold of a cheap one, or an old one, and dissect it. You will have a solar cell to play with, and perhaps adapt to some other use.

Discuss It!
