It is truly important since it's the main source of renewable energy and can be used for many of the activities and energy-alternatives that we know today. If free and powerful doesn't sound good enough maybe the fact that it provides life to the vegetation (earth and underwater) we depend on to get the food and keeps us warm all year long is for sure the best reason why solar energy is important in our lives

Reasons:
Just like any other country, Singapore should keep on looking not only areas but different ways to harness solar energy since it's not just the area what's most important but the method used to get the energy... there are a vast amount of way to retain solar energy it's just a matter of will, intelligence and compromise.

Singapore is situated near the "Equator", thus it is of very suitable and having nearly all year round sun light. The problem with it is that "COST", very,very expensive for the solar cells and the space constrain in our building. Hence, totally not economical to have this equipment because you spent much more than our electricity.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're asking about the feasibility of utilising solar energy in S'pore, (besides the point that you mentioned that over here we get plenty of sunlight) the technology behind solar panels are also getting matured (more efficient in energy conversion) and no longer as cost-prohibitive as they used to be when they first came out.

Singapore used solar energy. A lot of homes installed it for their hot water supply n some of the road signage with lights also used them to supply the electricity for the lights.
