As the CEO, you have to understand that I have a legal obligation to maximize the profits to my share holders. The only reason I would diversify is because the future of the present production is in question. Since it is not, in my lifetime and I am over the hill, I don't give a &)^$&$*^!!
But if I had reason to diversify, like there was money to be made in other sources, then of course I would invest in them.
I would finance solar energy production in each home. This would power the electric cars that would suit many people's commuting needs. The energy moguls would hate this because it would cut electricity consumption and coal usage. Which in turn puts miners and trainmen out of work. I would have to run for my life.
