Get a plastic pop bottle put water in it set it in the sun and there you go solar hot water . It would help to put something black in there to absorb the sun light more efficiently. You may even want to have one with something black in it and and one that doesn't . Leave in the sun for a bit then check to see which one is hotter . Maybe with a thermometer or just by the touch . Cheapest and fastest thing i could think of in the spare of the moment . If you don't have sun that day then just explain how darker colors absorb more sun then light colors . Look it up if you don't know why . I cant do all your work for you . Try to get as much black around the sides as you can on the inside so the heat goes directly into the water. A black plastic bag stuffed in would work .

Buy a Solar Power Educational Kit about 10 dollar and demonstrate it.
Or buy a solar garden light and write a report on the solar input versus lighting hours at night.
Perhaps review a house energy consumption and work out how much solar is needed to eliminate the power bill.

sorry i cant remember any of the sights but a good deal of solar panels is about £3 per watt i think that's around $2 however you can buy the cells and make your own solar panels for about £1 per watt there is also a new kind of solar cell that has been invented recently which is actually printed on to aluminium foil and this is very cheap per watt but it is currently not available i think
