Solar Energy New York

Christina Said:

How much money do they pay new employees at New York Home Depot's?

We Answered:

If you have that type of experience, I would apply at Lowe's. I used to work for The Home Depot in Southern California and being in the specialty department I only made $12.50/hr. That was a few months ago.

Since THD and Lowe's are competitors, you can bargain with HR or your hiring manager or asm. THD was an OK place to work overall, nothing bad to say but I needed more money, something they could not do. Good Luck!

What does the president obama and mccain believe and also thier vice presidents?

We Answered:

go to youtube and watch the Presidential debate.
You can also watch the Vice presidential debate, they will explain everything they believe.
Have a paper and pen and write the important things down. It will help you a lot. You will actually learn, and be informed.
BTW: Jules is really ignorant, those are just her opinions, she sounds like an angry right winger that only listen to bias McCain campaign ads, some people will just never vote for Obama, they are just ignorant like that and refuse to see the truth. You see for yourself after watching the debates.

WHy isnt miami using solar energy?

We Answered:

My guess would be that the solar panels would keep getting blown away by hurricanes and too expensive to replace that often.

New alternative energy idea?

We Answered:

Your idea is a great one: in fact, it has already been done.

Here is one company that you could invest in. Google around and you will find plenty of other articles about this technology.

This is a pretty advanced idea for a 14 year old, I'm impressed. Doubly so that the idea is actually practical. So many of these "I have an idea to generate electricity" questions involve perpetual motion or other impossible ideas, it's great that you came up with an idea that could actually work. (I'm not too sure about your "30 to 40%" estimate, though.)

Derek Said:

is solar energy enough to power up a city like new york?

We Answered:

That depends. Are the only solar panels involved to be on the tops of buildings within NYC, or are they going to be deployed over a wider area with the energy piped into the city?

In the first scenario -- no, a large highrise is not going to power itself with roof panels. If the building were sheathed in solar panels then it could well reduce it's use, but likely not cover all of it.

Could NYC make a huge dent in it's use with solar energy? Yes, it likely could. Solar powered streetlights alone could likely make a big dent in the city's bill.

But NYC also has other resources it could use to generate power.... the fresh kills landfill produces a lot of methane... which could be burned to generate power, instead of just burned (as is done now). NYC is surrounded by water and generation could be done from the flow of the East and Hudson Rivers and from salt water generation methods on Long Island (Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island) and Staten Island. Wind turbines on the top of high rises would also be good sources of energy within the city. If you've every wandered the Wall Street area the winds created between the highrises could be a great source of energy.

Could NYC be totally SELF-powered by solar energy alone? Probably not. Could it be using a variety of methods? Quite possibly.
