Solar Energy In Hawaii

eclipse questions Earth science questions HELP?

We Answered:

5.)what affect do giant magnetic storms on the sun have on earth? They can affect electronics and wave signals. For example, your radio might randomly cut out, and cell phone reception will not work properly. This is usually temporary, depending on the size/type of storm.

6.)temperature on the sun jump from 10,000 degrees at the surface to ................ in the corona

7.)totality will last ...........? *usually only a few minutes- I am not sure on the specifics.

9.)there appears to be a link between sun spots ans earths ...........? Climate. Depending on the number of sunspots in a given period, we will notice fluctuations in climate patterns.

10.)we feel infrared light as ..................? Heat

11.)ordinary sunlight can be broken down into a ....................... visible spectrum. The "rainbow" we see when we shine light through a prism.

13.)white light produces a ................... spectrum. visible

15.)one of the big questions the scientists are trying to answer is why the suns corona is so..................? Large? Far reaching? Magnetically charged..? I don't know exactly. The corona extends a great distance into space though...

Is the human increase in atmospheric CO2 the primary cause of global warming?

We Answered:

Given that CO2 continues to increase but the temperatures have not, and have actually come off their highs (even if you don't consider the "outlier" Super El Nino year of 1998 - not that they didn't milk that for all it was worth in 1999-2000, the temperatures have clearly come off of their more recent relative highs in 2005), and given the decline in solar activity occurring contemporaneously with the recent cooling, I would suggest that the correlation between sunspots and temperature is stronger than the correlation between CO2 and temperature.

HW help science Moon and eclipse?

We Answered:

1) "Total Eclipse" was a very good episode of "Hawaiian Eye" and had an early TV appearance by Jack Nicholson. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0598385/
2) It is important because now the tops of those volcanoes are good for something.
3) There is no prediction for the moon covering the sun for any length time, at any time in the future if you don't specify some date for a total solar eclipse. There will be a hybrid eclipse passing near Hawaii in 2031, twenty one years from today.
4) Saros cycle.
5) Disturb power grids, radio communications, satellites, space missions.
6) a million degrees
7) as long as the moon covers the sun completely.
8) atmosphere
9) solar telescopes that observe them.
10) heat
11) spectrum
12) chemical signatures as lines or gaps
13) continuous
14) ionized
15) hot

Green Community in Hawaii?

We Answered:

Yes, Maui is at the center of sustainability in Hawaii. It might also be Maui Community College. Also check www.kanuhawaii.org, which is heavily involved with environmental issues.

In Hawaii what do the average houses look like - what is their design??r=1239361884?

We Answered:

For normal (=not rich haulis) Hawaiians, solar hot water makes a lot of sense when electricity comes from burning oil. It isn't cheap. Insulation and sealing isn't so big as the climate, buffered by the ocean, is fairly benign. After the HWS and tumble drier, the next biggest use is probably lighting or plasma TVs.
