Solar Energy Applications

Jeffrey Said:

What are the applications of solar energy?

We Answered:

Lemme see, how do I make this easy for you to understand?

You know that electric energy can be converted to light by a simple process, right? Now, just think that we reverse the technology, and voila, you've light becoming electricity!

Douglas Said:

how can i get a newest thesis about application of solar energy in agriculture?

We Answered:

Here are some you can work with.

Pro:
1) Solar energy in agriculture is the next evolution in sustainable farming once fossil fuels are gone.
(evidence: fuel price going up, power machines, plenty land and no trees shading solar panels, already working in vineyards in California, sustainable, last practically forever, power irrigation pumps. Green houses are a form of solar energy that's been used for years. It can allow you to grow crops even during winter seasons. Government incentives are making solar affordable in some states. The thinking is that electricity/energy is going to be used regardless of now or later. So regardless of payback time from initial investment, the customer will have use for solar.)

Con:
1) Solar Energy in agriculture is impractical use of land with little payoff.
(Evidence: fossil fuel still cost effective, it's hard enough making a profit off a harvest, the use of the sun is better on growing food than on energy. No tractors or equipment are made of electricity, so solar energy won't be used to charge the equipment. Solar is so expensive that the time it take to recoup the initial investment will be 10 years or so. Farmers and corporations don't like to see a return that long, especially when that money can be put to use that will generate immediate profits.

Could anyone tell we what are the Solar Energy Applications?

We Answered:

Solar powered robot: http://www.sciplus.com/search.cfm?utm_so…
And Solar Powered Car Cooling Fan, Solar Powered Car Battery Recharger, solar powered water pump, solar powered calculator, solar powered lights and several solar cells.
Solar Thermal Panels can work as a replacement for the water panel, and on a larger scale they can provide the energy for the a solar farm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_farm
Solar cells power everything from robotic space probes to calculators: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_cells… They also make a good supplement to the power grid, in fact Germany is going toward solar power for its primary power.

The problem with solar power is of course the cloudy day, but it is renewable and nonpolluting and once the panel is put in place it is free to operate. Germany is a bit far north to convert to solar power, but the attractive possibilities of it have made the German government think it is worth the investment.

PBS has covered several topics like the one I mention above and things like solar powered stoves: http://www.pbs.org/search/search_results… as well as the solar powered car.

'Solar energy & its applications'?

We Answered:

interesting question. i don't know that much about photo voltaic cells, but i do know there are solar shingles now that can be used on residential as well as commercial buildings in conjunction with standard ac power lines. i've read that these are efficient enough to actually run electricity meters in reverse, effectively putting excess power on the grid at times. in essence you're saving money in the long run by selling electricity back to the power company. pretty sweet.

Katherine Said:

what is the most common application solar energy in the us today?

We Answered:

I have heard that solar pool heaters represent the most square footage of solar collectors. That being said, the largest current applications of solar energy seem to be in solar electricity, aka photovoltaics. Large scale solar farms are being adopted by utility companies.
