Solar Energy Air Conditioning

Florence Said:

Solar energy?

We Answered:

First, hook a solar module on a hinge at the top of the window on the out side of the house. Then put adjustable legs on the module about mid way so you can adjust it down in the summer to block the sun from comming in. Then you can lift it in the winter too allow the suns heat in.

Second, Build you a flat shelf looking board in what ever shape that looks good and mount it on the bottom of the window. Paint it white or bright yellow.. Or what ever long as it is bright and can reflect the light into the house to light the room.

This way the solar module blocks the heat of the sun and makes electric. The bright painted board lights up the room.

This idea is in use at the Florida Soar Energy Center so you could in no way get the rights to it but could put it on your home.

How can I use solar energy for Air Conditioning?

We Answered:

Some absorption type A/C units have already been utilizing a solar heated water source in the generators. They have been in the market for decades and generally ignored.

Danielle Said:

how effective does solar energy for a 5 units air conditioning? how many solar panels do i need?.?

We Answered:

If you are using solar energy to power the air conditioning, you will need to have a couple of other considerations. First, you obviously couldn't run the air conditioning at night, so either your building/house will have to do without cooling at that time or use some sort of storage method. That means, second, that either you must have excess capacity to cool some cooling reservoir like an insulated water tank or a body of buried rocks, as some schemes use. Or you must have excess power producing solar cell capacity in order to feed a power storage system, such as batteries or rechargeable fuel cells. Finally, not all air conditioning units have the same power requirements, it isn't like a certain size of flashlight, so you know how many D or C cell batteriess, for instance, to stock up. Similarly, there are different solar cells. The higher efficiency cells will commonly cost a higher price, inversely, what is cheap will be so stingy on power as to require they be many in order to get anything done. The problem is a little bigger than your question permits an answer for. Good luck.

Can solar energy used for room cooling (air conditioning) or can be night coolness stored to use at the day?

We Answered:

the solar energy part of the question has alreay been dealt with.
there are other ways to cool a room just by design not using energy at all.

In Australia they put pipes in cold air flows (like down by the river)and direct these in to the house as simple as that.

Or if you make an opening at the bottom of the wall on the outside in the shady side.

the cold air can come in there, you can put wire mesh or a grid to stop animals (mice)from entering.

and you then have to have an opening at the highest part in the room in the wall( preferable on the oposite side of the hole in the borttom),to let the hot air escape ,

an aircurrent is the result which will cool the room down or if it is the whole house the escape hole should be in the highest part of the roof .

i have cooled a room down by hanging a wet curtain in front of the open window, the air coming truogh the curtain is much cooler.

you can make a fridge this way.by building a small room out of bricks,(in a windy place)and leaving spaces between the bricks.
you then drip water down the wall by putting a hose on top of the wall and with a small nail puncture some very small holes in it.

the best way is to use clinkers which are the coal left overs that come out of a big boiler.

these clinkers absorb water like a sponge and warm air passing over it looses its heat in the moisture.
you can make a fridge go as low as 4 degrees, which is good for cheese ,meat and eggs-

i cool beer down (if i havent got a fridge )by hanging them in a wet jute bag in the wind.
